These action cards are numbered from one to nine to indicate it’s strength. Some of these cards will have additional abilities. The central game board has 7 different regions from which you will take your actions. These regions consist of
- Travel – gain tokens that provide immediate and future benefits.
- Jade Market – collect to gain end of game VP’s.
- Great Wall – build with servants to gain Intrigue benefits.
- Intrigue – grants benefits for Great Wall participation, also an end of game tie breaker.
- Palace – your envoy must reach the top level in order to be eligible to win the game.
- Decrees – provide start of round, ongoing, and end of game benefits.

Gùgōng |
A game consists of 4 rounds with 3 phases to each round. You will play a card from your hand to a region. Based on it’s numerical value to the card that is already in this location it will determine the action(s) you will take. The key element of the game is in managing your hand of cards. When you play a card to a region you are basically exchanging a card from your hand with the one in that region. If yours is numerically higher, you perform the action of that region plus any that may be on your card. If your played card is lower then you have lesser options. You have a limited number of servants that can be used in a variety of ways to enhance your actions. You not only need to optimize your actions for VP’s but build your hand for future plays. The player whose envoy reaches the top level in the Palace and has the most victory points wins.
