New Game: Mobile Markets

Mobile Markets is the next game in the Smartphone Inc series. It is a stand-alone economic game where players are CEO’s of consumer electronics companies competing for the new mobile technologies generation. – – 1 to 4 players – – 40 to 80 minutes game play

Get ready to compete for customers by planning research technologies, marketing campaigns, production and sales.  The winner will be the CEO who makes the most money over the 5 rounds of the game.  Those CEOs will have to create products to satisfy 3 types of customers, variety seeking, regular and complex.  Some customers will pay more for a phone as long as it has the right features.  Each round starts with the drawing of an event card.  The first phase of the round is planning.  Players have 2 tiles with 5 symbols on each side.  Planning involves placing those tiles face up with some overlap.  The symbols left face up will affect the following phases of pricing, technology, marketing and production.  The number of symbols covered up will also affect production.  The second phase is pricing.  All phones are priced at $5 at the start of the round.  Symbols revealed in planning can cause prices to go up or down. Pricing will determine player order for the rest of the round.  Phase 3 is technology.  In this phase players can use the technology symbols exposed to add abilities and phone features.  In the 4th phase of marketing exposed symbols will be used to acquire additional abilities and possibly to lure private customers that no one else can sell to.  The number of phones that can be built in the 5th phase of production is determined by the number of production symbols face up plus the number of symbols covered up during planning.  Phase 6 is sales.  In turn order CEOs will sell to the available customers any phones that meet their demands for price and features.  Players featuring the lowers price will go first in turn order.  Profits are determined by price less cost.  All phones have a base cost of $1.  Costs will increase based on the additional features a CEO is adding to this run of phones.  Profit is determined by price less cost and the number of phones sold.  After 5 rounds the player with the most profit will be the winner.
