Games Goes “Off The Charts” – Bohnanza The Duel and Cottage Garden

Two games went “Off The Charts” earlier this week on our trek to Lincoln City for some sunshine and relaxation.

Bohnanza
 The Duel

It was a beautiful day to plant and harvest beans in Bohnanza: The Duel, a perfect 2-player traveling card game. The sun was out and it was so calm that we could play cards while on the beach. Lynn had a powerful field of black-eyed beans, but I managed to actually win by a couple of points with several harvesting’s of chili beans. I’d love to tell you I had a great bluffing strategy during the gifting phase but I think I finally had a clue how to score more bonus cards.

Later, after picking up some snacks and settling in on the deck overlooking the ocean we broke out Uwe Rosenberg’s Cottage Garden.

Cottage Garden

We love the Tetris-like feel of Cottage Garden. When the two of us play, the scores are usually close and the decisions maddening. The available tiles always seem to have one too many or one too few squares. While Lynn got both special beehive scoring tokens, she ran out of kitty’s mid-game which put a crimp in completing her boards. I had a little more flexibility at the end to pull out a 3 point victory.

We have an open copy of both Bohnanza: The Duel and Cottage Garden available in our Demo Games Library for you come in and try.
