Abomination
(Mitch)

Mitch comment: “I tried the new solo play variant for Abomination. It uses “inspectors” that move in a pattern around the board and if you meet up with one, you either try to not be seen (and face consequences if you are), bribe, or the ever popular, straight up murder the inspector and USE THE BODY FOR PARTS! This game makes me wonder if I may be a sociopath but I enjoy it so much. I ended up winning by bringing my creature to life in the end of round 9 and ended up with a nice 199 points! A great and new way to enjoy this game.”

~ ~~ ~~~
Sunset Over Water
(Marlo)
Marlo comment: “Finished the night on a lighter game. There’s a pleasant amount of strategy in the solo variant for Sunset over Water. Such a simple game, but still one of my favorites.”

Eric T comment: tested out 2 player Cooper Island to learn the rules and get a feel for the game. Very tight and puzzly worker placement, my favorite part is the landscape tile stacking puzzle. I think this is a great 2-player option and probably great at all player counts! While tight with winning scores likely between 15-20 points, there is a lot of freedom and flexibility on turns via free actions and order of action steps.

Game Arrivals: March 3rd – 12th

Two new games from Final Frontier Games and one from Wizards of the Cost plus plenty of restocks have arrived!

Here’s a look at look at what’s new:

Coloma
Final Frontier Games
Coloma is themed on the western frontier town where gold was first discovered at Sutter’s Mill kicking off the California Gold Rush.  Players are pioneers who have have arrived in this fast-growing boomtown in the hopes of striking it rich.  They will prospect for gold, use windfalls to recruit workers, rustle up horses, and establish businesses while trying not to go bust.

Coloma
Coloma is a fast-moving strategy game with many ways to win.  It offers unique twists on simultaneous action-selection, resource management, and engine-building.  The buildings in your tableau allow you to become more efficient, gain extra actions, and bend the rules to your advantage.  With these and the dynamically-scoring Bridge tiles, you can fine tune your gears to suit your individual play style.

Players: 1-6
Time: 60-90 min.

~ ~~ ~~~

A Fistful Of Meeples is another new wild west-themed game in from Final Frontier Games.  This is a Mancala meets worker-placement game. Played on a central board representing the town street.  On a turn you’ll grab a Fistful of Meeples and place them around the street.  Then you’ll take actions such as mining for gold, building businesses, busting robbers, and dueling in showdowns. The meeples come in four different colors and your actions are determined by the color of the meeple and the location.  After the dust has settled, the player with the most points wins.

Players: 2-4
Time: 30 min.
