Roll For The Galaxy: Ambition is the first expansion to the base game Roll For The Galaxy, a dice game of building space empires.

Ambition not only provides new factions, home worlds, and game tiles, but also adds two new dice types and optional objectives.  Each player will have one and only one new black leader die that will replace one white home die in their starting cup.  The second new dice type is the Entrepreneur orange die.

Takenoko: Chibis is an expansion that adds more fun to the tile-laying base game Takenoko, where a gardener moves around various garden plots making bamboo sprout and grow while a panda goes among the tiles eating said bamboo.

The Takenoko: Chibis expansion adds a mama panda and some baby pandas in addition to new objective cards.  Now the gardener has to work extra hard to provide enough bamboo for all.  Mama panda is a cute figurine outfitted in pink and brings with her baby pandas represented by tile icons and tokens.  Her role is to get the baby pandas placed throughout the gardens.  Baby panda tokens bring one of three bonuses when placed or victory points if in a player’s reserve at game end.  All of the new plot tiles have the baby panda icon on them.  These new baby panda plot tiles include the Kamis Garden, Sacred Hills, Celestial Pond, and Gardener’s Cabin with each type providing a new effect.

Power Grid: The Stock Companies is an expansion to the base game Power Grid a strategy game of planning with surges of energy.

As shareholders, you want to get control over different stock companies so you can acquire the greatest wealth.

There are two additional variants: 

1) Players are trying to get shares of the most successful companies: the ones that supply electricity to the most cities. 

2) Players control their private stock companies and try to establish them successfully on the electricity market. They sell shares of their own companies to generate more cash and then are able to buy shares of other players’ companies. Thus, they can also earn a portion of the other players’ successes.

Why First?, a quick and crazy card racing game where need place second to win. After five rounds the winner will be the one who has scored the second-most points. 

Players begin each round with a hand of five cards that can range in point value of -4 to +5.  The hands of cards are played one card at a time. Players will simultaneously choose one card from their hand and place it face down in front of them.  Ready, set, go! players will then simultaneously take and place their face down card in front of any player they choose or keep the card.  Players then tally up the value on any and all cards that ended up in front of them and move that many spaces (forward or backward) on the game board. Play continues in this manner for the first 4 cards in players hand.  The last card and fifth card can only be played on themselves. Move as before. The player that ends up in 2nd place on the game board wins that round and is the only player that gets their score recorded.

In Epic, you take on the role of an elder god, in conflict with other elder gods. The cards in your deck are your champions, who fight for you, and events, which represent your will imposed on the mortal realm.

A second deck can be added to play up to 8 players.

Arriving in from the designer of Coup is Coup Rebellion G54, a new stand alone game set in the dystopian universe for 3 to 6 players.

Quick to learn, Coup Rebellion G54 uses the same fast rules as Coup – claim, counter, challenge, and bluff and then adds a strategic layer with character selection.  Each game plays with five character roles chosen randomly from a deck of 25 unique character cards.  The combination of abilities and interplay between these provides plenty of variability with each game.  The objective is to be the last player with influence (a face-down card) for the game win.

In CardLine Dinosaurs players are trying to be the 1st to get rid of the cards in their hand by placing them correctly in the central card line.  At the start of the game decide which of the 2 characteristic you’ll be comparing; weight or length.
There are 110 double-sided cards.  Both sides of a card depicts the dinosaur , it’s name, and it’s geological place while only one side contains it’s weight and it’s length.

From the designer of One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Ted Alspach comes One Night Revolution, a stand alone card game that combines some aspects of One Night Ultimate Werewolf  and The Resistance. 

One Night Revolution uses 2 sets of cards, ID cards that identify your loyalty as a Rebel or an Informant, and Specialist cards that determine the night action you will take.  During the Night phase players will secretly take turns performing the action on their specialist card. During the Day phase, each player will take a specialist token, claiming (truthfully or not) which action they performed in the night phase.  Next the discussions and accusations take place until the starting player calls for a vote.  Simultaneously, everyone will  point to the player they want to assassinate.  The Rebels win if an Informant is assassinated.  The informants win if no Informants are assassinated.

More Games Go “Off The Charts”: Ticket To Ride and Machi Koro

The second leg of our vacation trip took us to the Golden Spike National Historical Site and to a highly recommended winery both of which provided additional “off the charts” game opportunities.




The Golden Spike National Historical Site is where the Union and Central Pacific Railroads joined their rails at Promontory Summit, Utah completing the first Transcontinental Railroad. This was also the ideal place to play our Ticket To Ride The Card Game.

Days of Wonder

This is a game 2-4 player card game version of the board game Ticket To Ride.  In the game we are playing, we are each collecting sets of illustrated Train cards which are then used to complete Destination Tickets – routes between two cities depicted on each ticket. During the game we can each try to force the other to discard some of their cards from their railway yard so they don’t get into the scoring area.  Managing your railway yard is critical to getting cards into your final scoring area.





Our next stop was at Three Horse Ranch Vineyard in Eagle Idaho, a place we had heard about from a wine aficionado.  It was another beautiful day, the wine was fabulous, and we played Machi Koro our next game that went “off the charts” – idyllic.

Machi Koro is a fast paced, city building, dice rolling card game. Starting with only a wheat field and a bakery, we are each competing to build a thriving city and to be the first town to complete our 4 major landmarks – a train station, shopping mall, amusement park and radio tower.  We have an open copy of Machi Koro available in our Demo Games Library for you to come in and try.

This was a nice conclusion to a super fun vacation.

Games Goes “Off The Charts”: Agricola All Creatures and Isle Of Skye

We had a fantastic time on our recent trip to the Uinta Mountains in northeastern Utah. Naturally we took along several games for an “off the charts” experience.



We couldn’t have asked for better weather and this time of year the aspen leaves were changing colors – beautiful.

perfect spot for our first game,

This fast 2-player game makes a great travel game. It’s all about horses, pigs, cows, and sheep in this game in which you need to build stables and fence in pastures in order to get the animals you need for victory points.

After our Agricola All Creatures Big and Small gaming session we set off on a short hike to the top of Bald Mtn.  While a short hike, it was very rocky and gained 1,250 ft in elevation topping out at 11,943. Great views.


























Our next ideal spot within the Uinta Mountain Range was at Christmas Meadows.  After hiking in this area we found a nice spot to relax and set up and play our next game, Isle Of Skye.

This new 2-5 player game from Mayfair Games is a tile placement and auction game.  We compete to build our own little kingdom with meadows, animals, mountains, lakes, and structures that will afford us the winning points.




On our way back to Park City where we were staying we spotted this bull moose who clearly had an attitude issue.  It was late dusk so my camera had a hard time focusing on him. He was attacking and thrashing the shrubs with a vengeance. He most likely still had some velvet left on his antlers and it was bugging him to no end.
