Fantasy Flight has brought back Reiner Knizia’s classic game Tigris & Euphrates.
Tigris & Euphrates Fantasy Flight
This edition of Tigris & Euphrates maintains the game’s original mechanics while giving it an updated look based on the art of Sumer and Babylon.
It also features all the components necessary to play advanced variations, from a double-sided game board and civilization buildings to a wonder tile and accompanying idol.
Tigris & Euphrates is a tile placement game set in Mesopotamia at the dawn of urban development. Players will take on the role of rulers competing to build their civilization. They will have to develop all 4 segments central to civilization – housing, agriculture, commerce, and religion. Each player will have a dynasty of 4 leaders representing the 4 segments – a king, a farmer, a trader, and a priest which are used to gain victory points. During the course of the game players will position their leaders, create and extend kingdoms, build monuments, and resolve conflicts. In order to win players will need to develop a balance between their 4 segments. At the end of the game, players compare their lowest scoring segment with the winner being the player with the most victory points in their lowest segment.

Back in stock is Alchemists, a game of strategy, risk, and deduction.
Alchemists Czech Games Edition
In Alchemists players are alchemists competing to discover the secrets of their mystical art. Points can be earned in various ways, but most points are earned by publishing theories – correct theories. Therein lies the problem. Players gain knowledge by mixing ingredients and testing the results using a card-scanning app on a tablet or smartphone. They deduce how to make potions that they can sell to adventurers. Gold pieces can be spent on magical artifacts, which are very powerful but also very expensive. Players’ reputations go up and down as their theories are published or refuted. At the end of the game, reputation is converted to points. Points are also scored for artifacts and grants. The player with the most points wins.

Adding to our selection of children’s games are these from HABA:
Monza HABA
Monza is a car racing game that helps develop strategic thinking for kids 5+.
Taking on the role of race car drivers, 2-6 players will race their wooden cars around an oval track. The roll of the 6 dice will determine which lanes and how far you will advance your car. Match the color on each die to the lanes on the track and hope you can come up with the right combination to zoom ahead of the other racers.
Who will make clever combinations and thus use as many colors as thrown with the dice in order to get his or her racing car over the finishing line first?
Animal Upon Animal HABA
Animal Upon Animal is a wobbly stacking game for animal piling kids ages 4+. The goal of the game is to be the 1st to get all of your animals stacked on the pyramid.
With the crocodile starting as the base of the pyramid, players take turns rolling the die to determine the action that will be taken. If the die reveals a single dot, the player will place one of their animals on top of the crocodile. If it’s 2 dots, then the player must stack 2 animals. With the crocodile symbol the player places one of their animals so that it is touching the mouth or the tail of the crocodile. This increases the base area of the pyramid.
With the hand symbol the player will give one of their animals to an opponent who must then stack it on the pyramid. If a question mark is rolled the opponents get to pick which animal the player must stack on the pyramid.

New in from Markee games is The Game of 49, an auction bidding game.
The Game of 49 Markee Games
In The Game of 49 there is one simple rule – get 4 of your chips in a row on the main game board. Sounds easy enough. Now all you have to do is out bid your opponents to buy the spaces you want and try to block your opponents.
Players each start the game with $49 to be kept hidden and a set of player chips. The 49 game board is placed in a central play area along with the card tray containing face down number cards. Each player in turn will draw the top number card and offer it up for auction. Bidding proceeds in turn order and continues until all but one player have passed. This player places their player chip on the number space as the on the card. There are Wild/Payoff cards that can come up and are auctioned off in the same manner as the number cards. These cards can be one of 2 types: 1) indicate a number range that allows the player to play on any space within that range, or 2) a wild 49 card that corresponds to the coveted center spot on the game board. After the Wild/Payoff card has been acquired all players receive income from the bank equivalent to the number of chips they have on the board. Players must carefully manage their money and carefully weigh when to spend big to block an opponent or save and hope their winning number turns up next.
