French Quarter is a roll-and-write game about visiting the heart of New Orleans. There are entertainers to see, food to be eaten, and even a parade to follow around. The game is the 4th roll-and-write game from the design team that brought us Fleet the Dice Game, Three Sisters, and Motor City. – – 1 to 4 players – – 30 to 60 minutes
Each player will have two scoring sheets – one primarily buildings and the other various types of activities, and a tourist. There are six different types of action card decks separated by modes of transportation (walking, carriage ride, taxi, streetcar, riverboat, and meandering-socialize) designated by a color. At the beginning of each round one card from each deck will be turned face up and colored dice will be rolled and placed on its matching card color. In player turn order, each player selects a die/card combination and takes their actions. There are 4 actions to take. 1) Card Action – resolve the icons on the chosen card. These are primarily activities and umbrellas which can unlock in-game bonuses or end game multipliers. 2) Movement Action – move your tourist the number of spaces indicated on the card to a new building. 3) Building Action – resolve the icons on the building your tourist stopped on. 4) Map Action – write the value of the chosen die on the building if the value is within +1 or -1 of the value of all adjacent buildings. If not, score an umbrella. Each building you map scores a point at the end of each round if the parade route passes by that building. The player who chooses the pink Socialize action gets to determine the extension of the parade route at the end of that turn. The round is complete after each player has taken two dice. The next round is reset with new cards and dice. After 8 rounds final scoring is added up for building, parade points, food points and several more to determine the winner of French Quarter.
