Just released from Rio Grande Games is Dominion: Guilds, the 8th addition to Dominion.




This expansion adds 13 new Kingdom cards, coin tokens that you can save to spend later, and cards you can get more out of by paying extra for them – 150 new cards in total to add to your Dominion game play.

     1. Virulent Strain Challenge: makes one disease become particularly deadly in unpredictable ways.

      2.  Mutation Challenge: adds a fifth (purple) disease that behaves differently than the original four.

A Board Game Sneak Preview

What will be your strategy…produce or buy?

Based in an imaginary world where England has been transformed into a Steampunk atmosphere. Your goal? Build factories, using workers who produce a substance known as Spyrium. Producing Spyrium in one factory, then processing it in the next results in victory points.

An alternative to producing Spyrium is buying it, however, players will need to work very hard to purchase the rare and expensive commodity.
Only those who succeed from the beginning of the game to increase their income or workers will manage to offer the most lucrative factories will win!

• Circular type game play where players decide when to change phases

The new Doge has invited you to attend a prestigious masquerade ball at his palace during the Carnival of Venice!  It’s the perfect escape from the boredom of noble life, and it provides an ideal opportunity to conspire your way to a position of power!

Fantasy Flight

New out from Fantasy Flight is Masques, a card game for 2-4 players.

In Masques, players each control a noble family attending a masquerade ball.  Each family is vying for power, attempting to win the favor of the various guilds.  To do so, the families must use their influence and hire crafty agents in an attempt to gain favor in the guilds.  The first player to gain either 4 favor in a single guild or at least 1 favor in each guild wins the game.

Buffalo Games

Gotcha! is the party game that breaks all the rules.

Each player tries to follow the constantly changing rules while at the same time trying to catch others breaking a rule.  For example, a rule card may read, “People wearing jeans must use finger quotes while speaking. If any jeans-wearer speaks without using finger quotes, the 1st player to catch it and hit the buzzer scores.
The rule cards have been designed so there are thousands of different possible rule combinations making each game different.



Likewise!
Buffalo Games

Likewise! is a party game where it pays to think alike.

Players are presented a random pairing of a description card and subject card.  It might be “Goofy – Hairstyle” or Slippery – Actor”, etc.  Whatever the category, players secretly write down their answers on their handheld paddles.  Then simultaneously they all flip their paddles revealing their answers.  Those with the most matching answers move toward the winner’s circle.


Last WordBuffalo Games

Last Word is the hilarious race to have the final say.

Each round, simultaneously players blurt out answers while racing a timer.  For example, Subject: “Snack Foods”, letter “P”.  Players yell out… pretzles!, potato chips!, peanuts!, popcorn!, etc.  The player with the Last Word before the timer sounds advances towards Finish. 

Beware, the timer is cleverly programmed to go off at random intervals.

Seasons
combines some cool custom dice, a deck of powerhouse cards and a combination of
familiar mechanics to deliver an intense and enjoyable 60-minute game.
Players are dealt 9
cards each from which they will go through a drafting phase of selecting one
card and passing the remainder cards to the player to their left.  This process is continued until each player
has a custom hand of 9 cards.   Next each
player will divide their hand of 9 cards into 3 sets of 3 that will be played
in year 1, 2, and 3.  The start of every turn
begins with a roll of one of four sets of custom dice that represent the
seasons and where the face of each dice is made up of one or more symbols.  Each player selects a die and collects energy
resource tokens, crystals (victory points), additional summoning abilities,
additional power cards, or transmuting abilities as designated by the die
symbols.  Players summon power cards of
magical items or familiars to help them acquire energy tokens and/or crystals,
and change the course of the game with their effects.  Energy tokens representing air, fire, earth,
and water are needed to pay the cost to summon your power cards or they can be
transmuted into crystals.
At the end of the game
the number of crystals a player has accumulated is added to the point values of
all of their power cards that were summoned to determine the winner.  All you have to do is manage a card draft
phase, dice selection, and multiple card combinations throughout the 4 seasons
of 3 years to be the winner.

The Sky People retreated above the clouds and left the Borderlands to crumble and decay.  The old machines are rusted and broken, and the scavengers of Gearworld live on scraps from the past and refuse from the Sky People’s flying cities. The scavengers’ only hope for a better life is to build great towering skyworks and gain the favor of the World Above, allowing them to outlast and outlive their rival scavenger gangs.  In the Borderlands, survival is an exception.


This is a game of conquest and survival in a post-apocalyptic world.  Players must negotiate trades and alliances, conquer their rival’s territory, and gather resources in a race to build the skyworks to win the favor of those who live in the World Above.

Catan: Junior takes place on a ring of tropical isles.  Each island generates a specific resource: wood, goats, barrels of molasses, or pirate cutlasses.  You can also find gold.  Use the resources to build ships, more pirate lairs, or to get help from the wise Coco the Parrot.  You can even trade in the nearby market.  Just watch out for the dreaded Ghost Captain.  the first player to control 7 pirate lairs wins the game.

Their task is to farm parcels of land, irrigate them, and grow green, yellow or pink bamboo with the help of the Imperial gardener.  They will have to bear with the ravenous hunger of the sacred animal for the juicy and tender bamboo.

The player who grows the most bamboo, managing his land plots best while feeding the sacred Panda will win the game.
