Game Profile: Flash Point: Fire Rescue

A thrilling fire fighting game.

Description
Flash Point: Fire Rescue brings 4 levels of panic to your 911 call.  The family version of this cooperative game
has players sending their firefighting into a blazing house to douse the flames
and rescue potential victims.  Fire
fighters will battle the fire, enter new rooms to get to victims and then
battle their way back outside of the house. 
In the meantime, the flames are erupting all over the house causing
explosions, flash overs, and structural damage to the house.  Every time one victim is rescued another
potential one is noticed elsewhere. Players must work together to save 7
victims to win the game.  However, the
loss of 4 victims or the collapse of the house will result in losing the game.

Once the family version has been mastered,
players can move into the more advance levels of the game that provides special
characters, an ambulance and fire truck, multiple explosions, hot spots, and
hazardous materials.  Each of the 8
special characters brings a unique set of skills that will be necessary to
survive the advanced game.  The advanced
game has 3 different levels to play.  They
start with 3 or explosions, locations with hazardous materials that can cause
additional explosions, and a series of hot spots that can erupt into flames in
an instant.  The ambulance is now
necessary to go around the building to pick up victims that have been evacuated
from the burning house.  The fire truck
can be used to battle intense fires in a particular section of the house.  All of the character abilities, careful
planning, and a little luck can lead to victory before the fire claims too many
victims or the house becomes so unstable that it collapses.



We have played this game and find that it is well done and provides quite the challenge.  An open copy of Flash Point: Fire

Table Top Episode 19: Dragon Age Part 1



We’re back in swing with this season’s Table Top biweekly series hosted by Star Trek’s Wil Wheaton on Felicia Day’s Channel Geek and Sundry.  Today’s episode is the tabletop roleplaying game, Dragon Age.








Today, Wil and his friends Chris Hardwick, Kevin Sussman, and Sam Witwer step into the imaginary world of Thedas.  Chris Pramas, an award winning game designer and designer of Dragon Age facilitates as Game Master.  Which character will be the most successful at their role?  Will it be Gorik, or Fonzor, or Thinli, or Keegan?  I can tell you this, the dice are not friendly to at least one of them.  Join me in watching Part 1 of Dragon Age.

Description

It’s time to head for Las
Vegas and some fast paced gambling action.  There are 6 casinos offering a variety of
dollar prizes for the big winners.  Each
casino is matched with one of the numbers on a die, i.e.: The Gold Rush has the
number one, The Palazzo has the number two, and so on ending with The Show Hall
with the number six.  Each player starts
with a hand full of their own color dice. 
On a turn, a player will roll all of their dice and then choose one of the
numbers rolled and place all of that number in the corresponding casino.  Players take turns rolling and placing one
number (but all of that number) at a time until all dice have been placed in
the casinos.  Now the winnings are paid
out.  Starting with The Gold Rush Casino representing
dice number one, the player with the most dice in this casino gets its highest
money card.  The player with the second
most dice gets the next highest of its money cards, and so forth.  Each of the casinos’ money cards are paid out
in this manner.  There is a twist though,
all ties cancel each other out and are not eligible for any of that casino’s prize
winnings.  So beware, you may think you
have a winning position but if other players match the number of dice you have
in that casino all the tying players lose out on any of the prize winnings. A player
with a single die in that casino could end up the casino’s prize winnings if
all others are eliminated by ties. The game is played over four rounds at the
end of which the player with the most money is the winner.

Las Vegas moves quickly with ample opportunities to mess
with your opponents.  It always seems to have the
players pointing and laughing.

Village
Tasty Minstrel Games

Winner of the prestigious 2012 Kennerspiel des Jahres (advance strategy game) Award, Village is a game full of tactical challenges.


Life in this village is tough!  But at least it offers its residents a lot of room for development. Each player controls the fate of a family and want to rise to prominence. Just like in real life, time cannot be stopped. Eventually family members will grow old and die.  Those that worked hard during their lifetime may find themselves immortalized in the village chronicle and thus increase their family’s fame.

Village is played over several rounds, during which players control the fate of their family members by placing them wisely in the village.  The many different areas in the village allow for many different options.  Each area has an associated action space where you gain different types of influence cubes and trigger certain actions.  Players have to choose wisely, because the influence type and specific action rarely match. The game ends when either the village chronicle or the anonymous graves are fully occupied.  The player with the most prestige points wins.

With the popularity of cooperative games, we have brought in Flash Point: Fire Rescue.   As a cooperative game, players play on the same firefighting team and together must fight the fire back, rescue victims, and investigate points of interest.


With 4 levels of play: Family, Recruit, Veteran, and Heroic there is a challenge appropriate for all players.
