Description

Gobblet! is an abstract game played on a 16-square wooden playing board with 24 wooden pieces that are ‘nested’ into 3 stacks of 4 pieces.  The object of the game is to align 4 of your pieces in a row.  Your pieces start nested and you can only play exposed on your turn.  In turns players can either: put a new piece on the board, move one of their pieces already on the board to any empty space, or gobble up any smaller size already on the board with a bigger one.  The first player to align 4 of any size vertically, horizontally, or diagonally in a row wins.  Your memory is also tested as you try to remember what color your larger piece is covering before you move it.

Publication Gen42 Games, 2001
Ages 9+

Description

Hive is a fantastic game for two, played with highly
tactile Bakelite tiles. The aim of the game is to be the first player to
surround your opponent’s Queen Bee using a team of assorted creatures of both
your own and your opponent’s color. Because each creature has its own way of
moving about the Hive, the game is sometimes called ‘nature’ chess’, yet
simpler rules, no need for a board and an added accessible game that can be
played anywhere. Simply great fun!

The soldier ants battle to keep control of the outside of the hive, whilst the Beetles climb up to dominate the top. Spiders moving into holding positions as the Grass Hoppers jump in for the kill. Keeping one eye on the hive and the other on your opponents reserves, the tension builds as one wrong move will see your Queen Bee quickly engulfed; …. game over!

If you’ve ever spent
hours in a waiting room, listened to “medi-speak” from a doctor, or
played paper chase with health insurance… this game is for you!

Think of Hospital as
Monopoly, with a medical twist.  It gives you a chance to laugh, instead
of cry, at “what ails you”.  Hospital is a true inter-generational
game for grandparents, parents, and children.  Adults can laugh at their
aches and pains, and kids can laugh at the whacky characters, while learning
about money, counting, and healthcare.

Hospital is the creation of Gresham native, Jim Froese.

You and your fellow adventurers explore the ruins of an ancient Incan temple, looking for turquoise, obsidian, and gold.  At every turn you must decide whether to play it safe by returning to camp with the treasure you’ve gathered so far; or to be a truly intrepid adventurer and keep on exploring.  Going farther into the ruins means risking your treasure by falling victim to giant spiders, wandering mummies, fire spouts, and venomous snakes.

Game Profile: Ingenious

Classification Family Game
Mechanics Tile Placement, Pattern Building
Publication Fantasy Flight, 2004
Ages 10+
Time 45
Players 1 – 4
Description

In a game of Ingenious players use double hex tiles with various colored symbols.  Tiles are played on the board to form lines of like symbols. Scores are calculated by adding all symbols that match the played tile in all directions.  Next the player marks the score on their player board by colored symbol. This is the Ingenious part of the game; all players must try to score points with all 6 symbols. Players continue adding hexes to the playing surface until there are no possible plays left.  This marks the end of the game.  Players then look at their score by color.  The color that is the lowest on their individual score board will be their game score.  The player with the highest low score is the winner. The key to winning is to try and get all of the colors on your board as high as possible.

another in a series from Wattsalpoag Games of Bellevue, Washington.
Soar into wealth and fame by running your own multi-national
airline!  Europe is overflowing with travel opportunities, and it’s up to
you to make it happen!  Claim the rights to strategic routes, and assign
your airplanes to flight paths between the most famous cities of Europe.
It takes money to run an airline, so you will need to pick up some of
those lucrative short hops before you can claim the more valuable long flights.
When Vacation time comes around, announce your Final Flight to satisfy
the holiday needs of world travelers and join the Jet Set!
Players turn consists of two phases.  In the first phase, the
long and short flight decks are replenished.  In the second phase, a
player can place planes on an un-owned link, or place planes on links they
already own, or place planes on another player’s link, or claim a Flight card,
or take income.  Victory points are awarded throughout the game by
claiming Fight cards.  Significant points are also awarded at the end of
the game for completing your Final Flight card.
This is an economic strategy game, money is scarce.  Building
from short routes to long routes is essential.  Also critical is for a
player to complete their secret Final Flight card.  The Final Flight card
cannot be claimed until it is Vacation time and the end of the game is near.
The winner will be the player who best manages their money and plans
their routes.
