We don’t just sell board games, we also provide tables and a library full of open board games, card games, and dice games for you to come in and play.  The tables are open during store hours as well as during our Weds and Friday evening Open Game Play Nights.

Battlestations is an asymmetric game where all but one player will work together to solve the mission while the one player controls the enemy. This multi-map game simulates a starship with players moving around and taking action on board the starship while simultaneously the starship is on another board moving through space. It is also a roleplaying game in which your characters grow throughout campaigns, picking up experience points, upgrades, and new abilities.

This sessions are free, so come and have so fun.

In The Voyages of Marco Polo, players embody one of the many people who worked with and around Marco Polo during his travels. As such, each player will take on the role of a different historical figure with their own special abilities that shape the course of the game. 

Each round, players roll their five dice to determine what actions they can perform. Gather goods such as pepper, silk, and gold, then travel from city to city selling them to fulfill contracts and earn money. You choose the two dice that determine how far you move each turn, so it’s up to you strike a balance between getting closer to your destination and stopping along the way to sell your goods.

Description
Vikings, prepare to
raid settlements, take plunder and make offerings to the chieftain.  In Raiders Of The
North Sea each player will need
to hire a crew, amass provisions and gain armor. Then they will set off to raid
harbors, outposts, monasteries, and fortresses. 
Harbors are the easiest to raid, but yield less plunder.  Fortresses are hard to raid, but provide the
most plunder.  After a raid players may
need to reload crew and provisions to get ready for the next raid.  Provisions are necessary in order to launch
raids.  Sometimes, alas, players can lose
crew members in a raid.  Crew members not
returning from raids earn Valkyrie, and Valkyrie can earn points.
Raiders Of The
North Sea is a worker placement game.  It has a great twist in the way it
works.  On each turn a player will place
a Viking on an action space performing the respective action and then remove a
Viking from another action space performing that respective action.  There are 3 different color Vikings and each
is effective only on certain action spaces. 
The Viking removed for the second action is the one that will be used to
place at the start of the next turn. 
This creates some interesting tension, i.e.  a player needs a gray Viking for the next
turn, but the action they want to take is occupied by a black or a white
Viking.
The winner of the game
is the player with the most points.  The
player with the most points is the player that raids the best and uses their
plunder to best to gain victory points. 
Some points can be gained by raiding the various locations.  Those points can go up by having a more
successful raid using more armor, stronger crewmen, and a little luck with the
dice roll.  Points can also be gotten by
using plunder to make offerings to the Chieftain.  There are 3 offering tiles available
requiring a mix of plunder to be satisfied. 
Points are awarded for purchasing substantial amounts of armor.  Additionally, points are awarded to earning a
lot of Valkyrie.  Therefore, losing crew
members isn’t all bad.

Game Goes Off The Charts: Skyward

Shellrock Lake in the Roaring River Wilderness seemed like a good spot to chill out and to play our next game to go “Off The Charts”.

Skyward is a clever and unique strategy card drafting game set in an airborne city.  The game is all about the card split and the selection of which stack to take.  Each faction has cards with strong abilities. The key is to quickly build a powerful combination. 


I decided to use the Makers faction as the centerpiece of my strategy.  Several turns later I got a hold of the Nexus card that once launched would nicely enhance what I was trying to do. Meanwhile, Lynn launched both the Beacon and the Landing Pad from the Seers faction to eek out a point victory.

Game Profile: Skyward

A clever and unique strategy
card drafting game set in an airborne city.

Description
Skyward delivers a good punch for a small box game.  The game features a small board and a good
size deck of cards featuring cards from 4 different factions plus a few cards
for vehicles and critters.  Each faction
has a variety of buildings that can be launched with varying points and varying
abilities.  Each faction’s buildings are
unique to their faction.  Scoring
combinations can even cross faction lines.  The premise of the game is four previously warring
factions have formed a truce in order to build the first airborne city, Skyward.  Players
compete in using a combination from the factions to build the highest scoring
airspace.
A game of Skyward starts by assigning the 1st
player, or Warden role for the first round Split phase.  The Warden will draw cards, face up, equal to
4 times the number of players. Now the fun begins. The Warden will divide these
cards into a number of stacks equal to the number of players. The Warden
chooses which cards and how many go into each stack – they do not have to be
equally divided. The Warden will place the Warden token on one of the
stacks.  In turn order and beginning with
the player to the Warden’s left, each player will choose one of the stacks of
cards to add to their hand.  The Warden
will get the last remaining stack.  Ooh it can
make for an interesting dilemma for the Warden when creating the stacks.  The player who selects the stack with the
Warden token immediately becomes the first player for the Launch phase, receives
a cog token, and will be the Warden in the next round.  Cog tokens are used as a wild symbol when paying
a building’s launch cost.
In turn order starting
with the new Warden, players can choose a building card from their hand to
launch by paying the appropriate faction cost. Additionally, they may discard 3
cards to obtain a wild cog token.  There
is a hand limit of 6 cards at the end of the turn.  After everyone has launched or passed the
new, the new Warden begins the next round by drawing and splitting another set
of cards.  The game ends when the launch
deck is exhausted or any player has 6 or more launched buildings in their
airspace.
The game is all about
the card split and the selection of which stack to take.  Each faction has cards with strong abilities.
The key is to quickly build a powerful combination.  This is not a long game.  It is likely a player will launch 6 buildings
within 6 rounds.

First came Codenames and then Codenames Pictures, both a team word game.  Now the popular Codenames comes in a 2-player version, Codenames Duet.

In Codenames Duet your joint objective is to identify 15 agents while avoiding the assassin.  Of the 25 word cards arranged
in a 5×5 grid in the center of the table, you will have a key that identifies
about 7-8 that are your secret agents “codename”. Your partner will have a key that
identifies the other 7-8 words that are your secret agents codename. By giving each
other one-word clues that can point to multiple words, you try to find all the
agents before your turns run out.

Codenames Duet comes with 100 Duet double-sided key cards and 200 double-sided word cards with all new words that are compatible with the original Codenames.

After generations of turmoil, four factions have finally put their differences aside to work together for a better tomorrow. As a commitment to their newfound alliance the worlds’s first airborne city, Skyward, is to be built right above the intersecting borders of the four realms. 

Skyward is a competitive card drafting game for 2 to 4 players.  Each round buildings and resources are provided for the city of Skyward and a Warden is appointed. As the Warden, you take the control of how resources are split into piles, but lose the ability to choose the pile you split. Each round starts with a Split followed by individual player turns. The object of the game is to develop your realm’s airspace with the most valuable buildings.
