Here is this
week’s arrival of games:

New in are 2 more in the Timeline card game series
from Asmodee,
Timeline American History and Timeline Americana. As
with the other themes in this series, each can be played as a stand-alone game
or combined with the other themes.

Timeline
 American History
Asmodee
Timeline
 Americana
Asmodee

The goal in Timeline is to be the
first to rid your hand of cards. A timeline is started in the center of the
table with a starting card date side up.  In turn players will select a card
from their hand only seeing the written historical event and places it before or
after a card already in the timeline.  The card is then flipped over and the
date is revealed.  If it is correctly placed in the timeline it remains.
However, if it is not in the correct date sequence that card is discarded and
the player must take a card from the draw pile into their hand.  Be the first to
place all your cards and you win.

American History – Do you remember when Harvard College or NASA were founded? Was Watergate before Woodstock?  Put your knowledge of American history to the test.

Americana – Test your knowledge of America’s popular past.  Do you remember when the Red Sox traded Babe Ruth, or when Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic?  When was Route 66 established?

Board Game Arrivals: Oct. 19th – 25th

More exciting
games arrived this week.

Newly released from Bézier Games is Subdivision, a sequel to the award winning game, Suburbia.  While Subdivision has a similar theme the game play is completely different.  Additionally, it is a lighter game and plays in a much shorter time – 30 to 45 minutes.  This is a game of master planning a community on a large tract of land.  Hex-shaped tiles are used to convert parcels into residential, luxury, commercial, civic, and industrial zones, and create lakes, parks, roads, sidewalks, and schools to improve a players’ Subdivision.

Subdivision
Bézier Games

This past March we saw
a prototype of Subdivision
at the game trade show
that we attended. We found
this game highly interesting.

Subdivision
is a simultaneous-play tile-laying game in which each player is building their own community where the different areas work together harmoniously and efficiently.

Through drafting and the roll of the Parcel die, players add Zone tiles to their Subdivision, activating other Zones and generating Improvements.  Those Improvements provide money and points, while slowly covering up as many parcels as possible.

Here is a game overview video by game designer Lucas Hedgren:

Another new game in is Lords of Xidit from Asmodee. Fans of the game Seasons will recognize Lords of Xidit as it is set in the same Xidit universe.  While both games exist in the world of Xidit, the game play is completely different.
Lords of Xidit
Libellud/Asmodee
What is refreshing and different about Lords of Xidit is it’s game mechanics and it’s end of game winning conditions.  A game of Lords of Xidit is played over the course of 12 rounds. At the beginning of each round players will secretly and simultaneously use a programming board with dials to select their 6 actions. The objective of the game is to accumulate the right amount of gold, castles, and influence to keep from being eliminated during final scoring.  After the 12th round, scores will be posted for the first of the 3 scoring elements.  Players who placed 4th and 5th place (in a 5-player game) are eliminated. Scores are then posted for the remaining players for the 2nd scoring element with the 3rd place player being eliminated.  Finally, scores are posted for the remaining players for the 3rd scoring element with the 2nd place player being eliminated leaving the winner as the last player standing.

In celebration of Power Grid’s 10 anniversary, Rio Grande Games has released Power Grid deluxe.
Power Grid
Rio Grande Games
Description from Rio Grande Games:

Power Grid deluxe is based on the highly successful game Power Grid.  However, it is not simply the same game with bigger, better and more beautiful components, but rather a version made especially for the 10th anniversary.  Everything is bigger: the double-sided game board now offers all of North America and all of Europe, rather than just the USA and Germany.  The customized wooden parts offer actual generators for the players and different shapes for the resources, among them natural gas instead of garbage.  All the power plants have been changed and we added new resource refill cards to make refilling the resource table easier.

The game is still Power Grid, with all the exciting auctions, the nerve-racking resource speculations, complex city networks and the tight competition among the players – all the way to the nail-biting end, as several players vie for the win.

Here are this week’s game arrivals:

Newly released from Asmodee is Abyss, a development game of combination-building and set collection that takes place deep down in the lower depths of the ocean and co-designed by notable game creators Bruno Cathala (Five Tribes, Mr. Jack) and Charles Chevallier (Continental Express, Sultaniya).
Abyss
Asmodee
For centuries, creatures without peer have ruled
the depths of the oceans.  Their kingdom, Abyss, is respected by all their
allied nations, who are happy to receive protection from the fearsome monsters
of the deep.  But soon the throne of Abyss will be vacant… Why not claim
it for yourself?
In Abyss players must battle monsters, recruit
allies, and sway the great lords of the deep. The right hand of ally cards will
let you control the lords who will help you seize the kingdoms of the Abyss. Be
careful of your foes, though, because treachery abounds in the lands under the
sea.

Also newly released is Flea Marketeers from Gut Bustin’ Games, a board game of wheeling, dealing, and stealing.  This is the perfect addition to local game creator Lisa Bowman-Steenson’s other games: Redneck Life, Trailer Park Wars, and Cheap Shot.
Flea Marketeers
Gut Bustin’ Games

In Flea Marketeers players compete to build up their own flea market area.  They will deal in Americana Treasure and resort to swindling the other Marketeers in the process.

Each player will have a price chart to use when buying and selling treasured items. Be mindful of the fact that an item of little value to you may be of great value to your opponent and vise versa. Additionally, Marketeer cards are played during the course of the game and can be beneficial or disrupt your opponent’s plans.

Also new is AEG’s Lost Legacy: Flying Garden designed by Seiji Kanai and Hayato Kisaragi. Seiji Kanai is the game designer who created the card game, Love Letter.
